Grace and Peace to you all!
I like to think of my relationship with God as a 3-legged stool. The legs on the stool must be firmly attached in order for it to serve its purpose.Of course, there are several facets to our individual relationships with God.I use the 3-legged stool approach to remind me of the importance and foundation of this relationship.I will beak down what each leg stands for and how this applies to my Christian faith.
Trust
We all know that for any seemingly healthy relationship to thrive, there must be an element of trust. In order for my walk with the Lord to function or be healthy, I must trust in Him.I am not talking about itty bitty trust, partial trust but TOTAL trust in HIM.My favorite scripture in regard to this principle is Proverbs 3:5-6 which says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.”
Communication
This is another important aspect of healthy relationships. We must communicate with God on a consistent basis.Just like we put effort into communicating with our spouses, partners, family, friends and co-workers, we must put in the same, if not, more effort when we communicate with our Father. We can do this through prayer, song, service etc.The Bible is always instructing us to pray continually regardless of what situation we are in.If things are going well, pray.If they are not, pray.My favorite scripture regarding prayer and communication is Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Love
Love must be present in our relationship with God.If anything, we must always remember we have the perfect example of love.God sent his only Son to die on the cross as an ultimate sacrifice for our sins.If that isn’t love, then I don’t know what is! The Bible tells us in Mark 12:30 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul , all your mind, and all your strength. “If we do this, we strengthen our relationship with him.
These are just 3 tips that I like to use to strengthen my walk with the Lord, particularly when I am going through a challenging season. Please let me know what you do to strengthen your relationship with God.I would love to know.
Thanks for stopping by.
Love,
Ruth
