I read somewhere that our relationship with God is just like our normal everyday relationships where we share, listen, talk etc. However,in our relationship with God,we *raises hand* are more of the talker than the listener. Each time we reach out to Him in prayer,we are doing most of the talking.Imagine a relationship where someone talked your ear off and didn’t listen to you at all!
I have been challenging myself to listen more to God and what He is trying to say to me.Let’s face it,the girl has things she needs and wants and I’m constantly asking, asking and asking for something.
I’ve had moments in the past few weeks where I have asked God for something with the belief that He will answer my prayers(s).He will answer alright, but sometimes it may not be the answer we are looking for….and this is where we need to be still and listen. As humans,we want what we want, whenever we want it and expect God to be on board with it.Sometimes,I imagine he’s just like “Nah,not today my child” and we need to be ok with that.
I am a firm believer in the notion that God knows best and we should take an active approach in listening to Him.Things will not always go the way you expect them to.I am comforted by Jeremiah 29:11 and Psalms 46:10 because I am reminded that He is in control and has the best plans for my life. All I need to do is be still and listen.
How has listening to God affected your life? Was there a time when you didn’t listen? What happened?I’d love to know.
Thank you for reading.
Love,
Ruth
